What can I buy/sell/trade on Gearshifter?
Anything and everything that you would expect to find at a traditional classic car and bike swap meet except actual cars and bikes. Check out the Categories section on the website for a better idea as to what items are being bought, sold and traded on the site.
Can I list spare parts on Gearshifter?
Yes, as long as they are classic/vintage related spare parts.
How much does it cost to list an ad on Gearshifter?
Posting an ad on Gearshifter is completely free for private sellers. Fees apply for retailers and wholesalers, contact [email protected] for more information regarding cost structures.
How do I list an ad?
It’s easy. Simply click on ‘Place an Ad’ at the top of the homepage, enter the required fields including your email address and click ‘Preview’. When you’re ready click ‘Publish’. After submission an email link will be sent to your inbox enabling you to create a username and password for future logins to Gearshifter (make sure to check your junk folder in case it’s marked as spam). Once you have created a username and password you can click on ‘Manage my Ads’ to edit or delete any posted ads.
What is the best format/size for my ad photos?
When taking a photo of an item you wish to sell on Gearshifter, whether using a phone or DSLR camera, it’s important to present it in the best possible format. The image should ideally be taken in landscape (horizontal) mode. If possible try to illuminate the object evenly using either artificial or natural light. A simple background such as a bed sheet will isolate a small to medium size object, drawing maximum visual attention to it.
The resulting image should be sized so that it uploads easily and quickly, and displays clearly in your Gearshifter ad. An ideal size for each image is around 4MB, or approximately 800×600 pixels. To check the size of your images right click on the image and click on ‘properties’. To resize your images use a photo editing program such as Microsoft Photos for Windows or Apple Photos.
Why doesn’t my ad appear on the site immediately?
After creation, all ads are placed in a moderation state pending approval by the administrator. This can take up to 24 hours. Once your ad is approved an email notification will be sent to your inbox.
How long does my ad run for?
An ad is listed on the site for 30 days, after which you have the option to relist or delete the ad. An email notification will be sent to your inbox regarding this.
What is the Gearshifter Community?
Supplementing the core buy/sell/trade activities of the website, the Gearshifter Community seeks to act as a central portal for all news and information related to the classic car and bike hobby. Classic business and club listings, an events calendar, a blog, anything relevant to the interests of the Gearshifter Community can be found in these pages.
